Speakers, including Clean Water Action and Coalition for Healthy Ports representatives, urged state leaders to keep expanding zero-emission fleets despite federal rollbacks.

Advocates gathered in Elizabeth, NJ, to support the Advanced Clean Trucks rule and document diesel truck traffic near the Port of Newark. Volunteers counted over 140 trucks in one hour, while state data showed manufacturers already exceeding 2025 compliance targets.

In an East Coast First, New Jersey Will Phase Out Diesel Trucks
New Jersey became the first East Coast state to adopt California’s Advanced Clean Trucks rule, requiring 40 to 75% of new truck sales to be zero-emission by 2035. The policy is projected to cut ozone and particulate pollution and save nearly $1 billion in health costs over 30 years.
